A RAZOR SHARP MESSAGE

Updated: Jun 15, 2022

Have you ever wondered where Martin Scorsese got his start? Well, he almost became a priest, seriously! It started in the Bathroom of all places. He had one set, one actor and one 16mm camera. The film is titled: THE BIG SHAVE and it was the first short film Scorsese directed before his first feature theatrical debut of "Who's That Knocking at My Door?

Most people love it and there are some that absolutely hate it, but I'll let you be the judge. It supposedly has a metaphoric message regarding Scorsese's view of the Vietnam war and and of the average American man of his day. Undoubtedly; this 6 minutes of a 'shave' is the foreshadowing of Scorsese's wacky world of cinematic genius that we have all come to know and appreciate. His style is forever etched into cinema and his messages are always razor sharp. It's no wonder that Martin Scorsese is a legendary director and one of the most influential director/producers of Hollywood movies in the 21st Century and it all started with THE BIG SHAVE!
